A 30-minute session at FINOS’s Open Source in Finance Forum in London on using AI to strengthen ESG analysis while keeping human judgement in charge.
It centred on InferESG, the open source tool Scott Logic built with abrdn using FinTech Scotland research grant funding. InferESG uses an AI workflow and multi-agent architecture to help analysts assess materiality and spot potential greenwashing. The session covered parsing complex ESG reports and frameworks (corporate sustainability reports, ESG ratings, TNFD and GRI), practical materiality assessment, detecting subtle forms of greenwashing, validation results from testing with major corporations, and balancing automation with human expertise. It included demonstrations of the greenwashing detection and materiality assessment features.
