When the Virtual and Natural Worlds Collide

Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution (Geography and Technology series)

An evening talk at BRLSI in Bath, part of its Geography and Technology series, held in Queen Square and online.

Every email, video stream and AI query relies on physical infrastructure, from deep-sea cables to orbiting satellites, that consumes energy, water and materials on a scale that is reshaping landscapes. Yet the same technologies, from Earth observation satellites to geospatial tools, help us monitor and protect the natural world. The talk looked at both sides of that equation, including AI sustainability, and offered practical insights for making informed decisions in an increasingly digital age.
